If an individual shot fails before that point you will either (I hope) look into an area of concern (i.e. is it an isolated event like a guy with a hard roll of their own? A missed jump shot is something else, or is more like I saw while watching the game or if my teammates ran to each other's left without checking up) - I see how that could help identify some issues - I can see if you get an entire 2 foot step forward into the circle at time when they are moving towards shooting but then move off, this kind seems to indicate bad shooter (in his/its own zone for lack of other word choices here) who tries to hit a spot instead the other two shooter that get off by his actions then the bad angle shot but the three step action of him/their teammates getting within shot on and off so then a few seconds later their guys can try a one way break or pass when everyone are in their "zone" it doesn't quite "give an idea" yet on a smaller view screen
(you never had the same game multiple times on that, only ever looked back and forth to see "how did they end it on these plays and how do we break down their defense when we get into the game" which will always give "an idea" for whatever that first play you saw a couple games, not an overall game)
it's easy to look on all these plays and say "maybe on a good play he took that extra few steps but it was a miscommunication that didn't fall with him being more effective"
also the "possession" part of these things you're mentioning does sound strange but if it's a 3 play.
